The New Pathways Foundation, in collaboration with Breakfast Club of Canada and the First Nations of Quebec
and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission (FNQLHSSC), organised a First Nations Leadership
Camp that was held on October 1 to 6, 2014, at the Tim Hortons Camp des voyageurs located in Quyon, on
Anishnabe territory in Outaouais.
From 16 Aboriginal communities in Quebec, 45 young people ages 10 to 14 years who are living in or have lived
in foster families participated in this first Camp which was exclusively intended for the First Nations communities
in Quebec. The purpose of this initiative was to recognise young people who do not necessarily have the
opportunity to participate in these types of activities and who have distinguished themselves in terms of their
leadership potential either individually or through their families, communities or schools.
The activity allowed the youth to develop their self-esteem and return to their communities with the strength
and courage needed to achieve the goals they have set for themselves and their communities. Over the
course of six days, First Nations youth from across Quebec who were chosen for their motivation took this
opportunity to forget their worries and to dream and discover new interests through
