The FNQLHSSC has updated its Breakfasts and Snacks recipe book. It features 55 recipes, many of which include traditional foods, as well as tips to facilitate the preparation of simple, quick, nutritious and balanced dishes. This book is a resource for the whole family. The recipes are also suitable for persons with diabetes.
It is also an interesting teaching tool for eating healthy since it is composed of two complementary sections. The first section is more theoretical with simple information and advice on breakfasts and snacks.
Here are some of the themes that are discussed in this section:
- What is a nutritious and balanced breakfast?
- What to drink?
- I am not hungry when I get up
- I don’t have time for breakfast
- Breakfast and diabetes
- Breakfast cereals
- Everything about brunch
- Snacks: when and for whom?
- Evening snacking
- Should my child choose their own snack?
- Traditional foods are popular!
The second section is more practical since it contains recipes for all tastes. Throughout the Breakfasts and Snacks recipe book, the following mentions have been added to illustrate certain types of advice:
Diabetes tips: This logo is used to identify any information about diabetes that may be useful for people with diabetes or for someone who cooks for someone with diabetes.
Tips: The tips provide sound advice related to the recipe: possible alternatives, the possibility to perform recipe preparation steps in advance, tips to facilitate recipe preparation, etc.
Nutritional notes: The nutritional notes provide additional information about the recipe or ingredient, how to store the recipe, and suggested foods to complement a breakfast or snack.
Stay tuned! The book will be available in hard copy and electronically in early 2022.
