Public health in the communities

Serving community health

Our public health work involves providing advice and support to communities and organizations, at the different stages of establishing and updating their community health plans, from the annual planning process to the operationalization of the plan.

We can provide information and advice to resource persons and make recommendations to improve the public health service offer in First Nations communities and organizations. We support the development of the skills of workers in fields related to public health, in particular by creating information and awareness-raising tools and campaigns, promoting promising practices, developing and disseminating training, etc.

More concretely, we collaborate in:

  • Assessing the health needs of the population.
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating various health programs, approaches and strategies.
  • Monitoring health and analyzing the health status and its determinants, particularly through population surveys.
  • Furthering research projects, in partnership with foundations, universities, professional associations, research chairs, hospitals and advocacy groups.

Information and recommendations

Our organization also participates in creating and deepening partnerships between First Nations, government authorities and other organizations. We ensure the transmission of information and communications concerning public health legislation and measures. We support First Nations advocacy efforts among the authorities concerned and we contribute to the development of agreements and the establishment of collaborative endeavours promoting their health and wellness.
